Hello! :)
My name is Colleen Knowles, and I am a sophomore at Saint Michael's
College!
I was born and raised in Proctor, Vermont, a tiny town with a
population of about 2,000. I attended the local elementary school and the
middle-senior high school, staying in a relatively solid class of 30 or so students the whole
way through. I was actively involved in all our available sports, our theater
club, our VKAT (Vermont Kids Against Tobacco) chapter and , later, our
VTLSP/SADD (Vermont Teen Leadership Program/ Students Against Destructive
Decisions) chapter, among other community and school groups.
When I visited Saint Mike's as a senior in high school, I knew I wanted to make it my new home. I had been here for the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Conference (HOBY) when I was in ninth grade, so I was familiar with the campus and the atmosphere. There was such a positive and home-y feel, and I knewI was going to love it!
Saint Mike's is the only school I ended up applying to. It was my
first choice school, and when I was accepted, I threw all my other applications away without even finishing them.
I am a recently-declared philosophy major and I'm hoping to be able to add a double minor in creative writing and religious studies. I also love to be involved in theater,
ride my bicycle, spend time with my friends, practice my guitar, and write and
read as much as I can! This year I am also part of Team VITA, the peer-led faith team on campus. We work with Edmundite Campus Ministry and the MOVE office to share our faith both on campus and in the surrounding communities. This semester I am also helping to lead the Emmaus Retreat, which I attended during my first year at Saint Mike's. I am so excited to be able to participate in all these wonderful groups!
It's going to be a great year at SMC!
